The opening workshop invites all institute participants to engage in an interactive, embodied experience using applied improvisation techniques (don’t worry – no one will be asked to act out a scene!). The conversations and activities will promote reflection on our leadership styles and values, foster connections with institute participants, and get us warmed up for the conversations ahead.

LGBTQ History Time-Travel with Eric Marcus
Eric Marcus, creator and host of the Making Gay History podcast, draws on his decades-old audio archive of rare interviews with LGBTQ champions, heroes, and witnesses to history to bring the history of the LGBTQ civil rights movement to life through the voices of the people who lived it. The presentation includes audio clips from interviews with both the well-known and the long-forgotten.

9:00 Workshop: Addressing Attacks on LGBTQ Rights, CRT, and Higher Education
This session will focus on empowering LGBTQ+ higher education leaders to enhance their advocacy skills and effectively respond to attacks on the LGBTQ+ community within higher education. The presenters, all from the HRC Foundation, will discuss strategies for leveraging the invaluable resources and support the Human Rights Campaign can provide to drive positive change within our institutions.
